Thermo treated oak is essentially oak that has been kiln fired making the wear layer slightly carbonises and therefore very dark. Lighter veins can still be present and this is part of the natural variation of the plank, but dark/black stain can be applied to achieve a more uniform look.
Thermo oak is very stable and suitable for underfloor heating.
OK you are looking for a dark floor. Dark floors can be made by treating and staining neutral wood such as oak, or by using naturally dark wood species such as walnut, black american walnut or wenge.
Dark floors are much in demand because are elegant and luxurious and are used in both commercial and residential application.
Walnut tend to be naturally brownish but can be stained to achieve a specific effect while black american walnut, as the name suggests, tend to be darker.
Wenge is amazing as starts with some reddish lines but after a few months tend to turn completely black.
Oak can be fumed, fired and stained and can achieve a variety of different shades of black depending on the treatments.
